One word: Match
There you go!
In all honesty, engagement sessions are my favorite. There is something so special about the process. You take two people who are happily in love, planning their future together, put them in matching outfits and magic happens!
I would say the most valuable thoughts I can pass on to you are to find matching outfit(s) and come ready to have laughs, kisses and snuggles with your person.
A note on matching, don't feel you have to go spend a bunch of money. I bought one ivory dress I used for our engagement pictures, my bridal shower and our rehearsal dinner. When I say matching, this can mean three colors that get mixed--say black, mustard and burgundy with her in a dress, cardigan and scarf and him in jeans and matching shirt; or it can be jeans and plaid shirts. I've seen many layers and I've seen simplicity, and it all works! Lastly, I will have a post coming down the road with some examples!
As for the memories, it is my job not only to capture moments, but to create moments. My goal during an engagement session is to make the couple feel comfortable and special and to create an hour that is memorable during what is often a chaotic season.
With all that being said, I know there are some couples that don't get engagement pictures. I understand it is a crazy time, and expenses are often tight. I also know that our engagement pictures are some of my favorite.
Not only did we use them to create a guest book for our wedding day, but I look back on them fondly. It was an hour we got to ourselves (and our lovely photographer) to feel spoiled and to invest in each other. We even went out for dinner afterwards to make a whole date out of it!
So there you have it, don't stress about it! Find a photographer you feel comfortable with (both in their presence, and their price range), figure out some matching outfits and go have some fun!
